Whittier Police Respond to Possible Bomb Threat

On 05/14/16 at approximately 8:41 PM, officers responded to the 10200 block of Pioneer Boulevard, in the city of Santa Fe Springs regarding a possible bomb threat. Officers were advised the suspect had entered the parking lot of a business and told passerby's he had a bomb in his car, then drove off.

Based on the vehicle description, officers located the car just down the street and performed a felony traffic stop. The subject, described only as a male adult was subsequently detained without incident.

It is unknown at this time why the subject chose this specific location, but the surrounding area was temporarily evacuated as a precaution and the Los Angeles County Bomb Squad responded to the scene. The vehicle was ultimately cleared and there were no explosive devices found.

The subject was subsequently transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
