Planning Commission to Consider Revising Notification Requirements
Public Notification – ZCA13-001
Posted On: December 13, 2013
On Monday, December 17, 2013, the Planning Commission will consider a draft ordinance to amend various land-use provisions and definitions contained within the code to address notification requirements for Community Development Director approved and other minor projects.
The Whittier Municipal Code contains varying standards for notification of surrounding properties for different application types both in terms of persons notified and the surrounding radius. In order to comply with State law requirements and to achieve internal consistency, the City Council requested that the Community Development Department initiate a code amendment to address three issues of concern relative to noticing requirements within the City of Whittier. The issues were as follows:
- Consistency with the persons notified of hearings, including not only the property owners, but any tenants as well.
- Consistency with radius for review affecting all hearing bodies for minor permits.
- Review of the triggers for notifications of Development Review Permit (DRP) applications for new or significantly remodeled single-family residences, duplexes, and commercial projects adjacent to residential uses.
