Veterans Resource Center
Posted On: January 29, 2014
The California State Library, in partnership with Cal-Vet, has awarded a grant to Whittier Public Library to create a Veterans Resource Center at Central Library, 7344 Washington Avenue. The public is invited to attend the grand opening of the Center, scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, at 5:30.
The Veterans Resource Center will provide referral services to veterans, military families, and their loved ones with the goal of helping veterans to reintegrate successfully into civilian life. The Library’s “one-stop” center will be staffed with trained volunteers. There will also be computers and a large selection of resource books for the vets to use.
The Center’s staff, most of whom are vets themselves, are trained to help vets learn about benefits available to them and their families in the areas of education, employment, health care, housing, disability compensation, and more.
The project is supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian. The American Legion Post 51 is providing a great deal of assistance and support in the form of advice, volunteers, and signage for the Center. Post Commander Patrick Dowd will speak at the Grand Opening.
The Veterans Resource Center, Central Library, 7344 Washington Avenue, will be open Monday – Thursday from 10:00 – 2:00 and Friday from 10:00 – 5:00.
