The Whittier Public Library provides a variety of Public Library services with equal access to the citizens of Whittier. Its primary function is to enhance literacy by meeting the cultural and educational needs and interests of residents. The library collection represents a broad range of ideas and viewpoints and contains over 330,000 items in a variety of formats including books, audio cassettes, DVD’s , compact discs, recorded literature and periodicals. In addition, the Library has access to WIFI, public computers with access to internet, ,microforms and variety of educational and occupational online databases, such as Career Transition, language learning and other research oriented resources.

Professional Librarians are available at booth Central and Whittwood Branch to assist our patrons with their research needs. The library provides a variety of children's services throughout the year to enhance literacy such as special programs for children, story time for all ages, a Summer Reading program and a state of the art Homework Center with access to tutoring services. The Library provides inter-library loans for materials anywhere in the United States, and has access to nationwide library catalogs to borrow materials. The Central library also is an official Passport Acceptance Facility for the U.S. Department of State.

Get a new or renewed passport at the Whittier Public Library! The Whittier Public Library is an official Passport Acceptance Facility of the U.S. Department of State. Located at in the Main Library at 7344 Washington Avenue, the office is open Weekdays between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, evenings Monday through Wednesday 5:00 PM, and 8:00 PM and Saturdays (by appointment only) between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The office also provides Passport Photos for a fee.
