Captain Mike Davis
The Whittier Police Department provides patrol service to the communities of Whittier and Santa Fe Springs. The patrol division is the largest detail in the department. Currently, over 70 officers are assigned to patrol the city streets.
Patrol officers respond to all calls for service from the community. Some of the situations handled daily by patrol officers are: traffic collisions, disturbances, domestic violence incidents, crime reports and checking out suspicious persons and vehicles.
Between calls for service, patrol officers spend their time maintaining high visibility in the streets and enforcing traffic laws. Citing traffic violators reduces the chances of traffic collisions. Maintaining high visibility in the community scares away criminals who may wish to commit crimes in the city.
Patrol officers are assisted on a daily basis by Community Service Officers (CSOs). Community Service Officers routinely take a variety of crime reports and investigate traffic collisions within the city of Whittier. By reducing the number of reports a patrol officer has to take each day, the Community Service Officers allow officers more time to patrol the city streets looking for criminal activity. Community Service Officers are also trained to assist in traffic control situation and crime scene investigation.
The Patrol Division also encompasses the Traffic Bureau, Special Enforcement Team, Code Enforcement, and School Resource Officers.
