Whittier Police Arrest Kidnapper

Posted On: March 6, 2013

On March 6, 2013 at approximately 2:02pm, Whittier Officers responded to the 6700 Block of Greenleaf Avenue regarding a possible kidnapping in progress.  Upon officers arrival they discovered a male subject being detained by witnesses.

Preliminary investigation into the incident shows that the victim (18-year-old female) met the suspect (Polanco, David 7-20-71) earlier in the day and willingly spent a number of hours with him walking in the Uptown Whittier area.

According to the victim, at some point Polanco grabbed her around the waist from behind and attempted to pull her away while walking in an alley.  Witnesses observed the victim struggle with Polanco and immediately called the Whittier Police Department.

According to witnesses, Polanco fled when he heard witnesses call 911.  Several individuals, who witnessed the incident, detained Polanco until the Whittier Police arrived.  The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Whittier Police Department Jail.

David Polanco is a 41-year-old resident of the county area of Whittier.   He is being charged with kidnapping and being held on $100,050.00 bail.

The Whittier Police Department is releasing Polanco’s photograph for the purpose of public safety as he is also a registered sex offender and the public is encouraged to report any suspicious contact they may have had with him to the Whittier Police Department.

Currently, it is too early in the investigation involving Palanco to determine if there are any connections to similar crimes in the area in recent weeks.
