Whittier Resident Arrested for Attempt Carjacking

On April 3, 2014 Whittier Officers arrested Jessie Duran in the 6300 Block of Comstock Avenue for attempted carjacking and several other charges. The incident that led to the arrest of Duran started at approximately 6:09pm in the 6500 Block of Newlin Avenue. The victim in this incident told officers that he had arrived home and was sitting in his car (which he had parked in the alley) when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect (Duran) demanded the victim’s car, however the victim refused. The victim drove off in his car and called the police. He parked his car in front of his home, waiting for officers to arrive. The victim had exited his vehicle only to see Duran approaching him with a handgun. Duran fired two shots at the victim as the victim fled on foot northbound on Newlin Avenue. Officers responded to the area of the shots and were able to locate Duran and take him into custody. Officers were also able to locate the gun used by Duran. No one was injured during this incident.

Arrested: Jessie Duran, a 24-year-old resident of Whittier and he is currently being held at the Whittier Police Department.
