The Sewer Maintenance Division maintains 210 miles of sewer lines within the City. The Division routinely cleans these sewer lines once over twelve months and some areas on a more frequent basis. The City’s sewer system is operated in compliance with various laws and regulations. Sewer service charges are based on measured water usage and are collected on the County property tax bill.
Sewer Fee Discount
Low income, single-family property owners may be eligible for a discounted sewer rate. Renters are not eligible for the discount since the sewer fee is paid through the property tax bill. Applicants must apply and be eligible for the City Utility Users Tax Exemption in order to receive the discounted sewer rate.
Sewer Lateral Problems and Repair Procedures
It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain and repair their own sewer lateral (the sewer line running from the home to the sewer main line). Click here for more information.
Sewer System Management Plan
The City has prepared a Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) in compliance with the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Order 2006-0003: Statewide General Waste Discharge Requirements for Sanitary Sewer Systems (GWDR), as revised by Order no. WQ 2008-0002.EXEC on February 20, 2008. The GWDR prohibits sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and requires reporting of SSOs using the statewide electronic reporting system.
