| | | | Budget Cuts to the Court System
Posted On: May 2, 2012 Due to the State’s budget cuts to the court system, Los Angeles County will close all 12 informal and juvenile traffic courts on June 5, 2012. These courts currently handle all misdemeanor and infraction citations which fall within the scope of the Welfare and Institution Codes section 256. These court closures will affect how juvenile offenders are cited. Effective immediately the following changes will be made. · All citations for traffic infractions for youth under the age of 18 will be cited in to Whittier Superior Court in the same manner as adults. · Any youth under the age of 18 that receives any misdemeanor citation, will not be given a court date. The citation will be sent to the Probation Department for review. Probation will then notify the parent(s) or guardian(s), regarding the youth’s appearance date and court location. If you have any questions, please contact Community Relations Officer Brad White at 562-567-9208. |
