Whittier Adds the MRAP to its Fleet

Posted On: April 26, 2014

On April 21, 2014 the Whittier Police Department took delivery of an MRAP (mine resistant ambush protected) through the 10-33 program. This is a program that allows the Secretary of Defense to transfer excess Department of Defense equipment to local law enforcement.

The MRAP is an $850,000 armored vehicle that provides protection from small arms fire. The Whittier Police Department received the MRAP at no cost and will employ the MRAP in support of high risk SWAT operations and as a rescue vehicle for citizen officer rescues.
