So, what is this map?⁠
⁠
The State of California recently updated its wildfire hazard map. It shows how likely wildfires are to happen in certain areas over the next 30 to 50 years, based on things like vegetation, slope, and climate. This does not represent current fire conditions.⁠

✅ Areas are labeled Moderate, High, or Very High.⁠
⁠
✅ This is about long-term hazard, not today’s fire risk.⁠
⁠
✅ “Red” doesn’t mean you’re in danger now.⁠
⁠
✅ Map zones may affect insurance, home building rules, or brush clearance requirements in the future.⁠
⁠
🌿 At the meeting:⁠
• @cityofwhittier staff will explain the map + how it may affect Whittier.⁠
• @lacountyfd will share tips on home hardening and defensible space.⁠
• @habitatauthority will give updates on brush clearance and habitat maintenance efforts in local hillsides.⁠
