Los Angeles County and Athens Services are hosting a free Mulch/Compost Giveaway and Shredding Event for residents of the South and West Whittier, East La Mirada, Los Nietos, and Sunshine Acres franchise areas on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Adventure Park, located at 10130 Gunn Ave., Whittier, CA 90605. Residents must provide proof of residency, such as a California ID or utility statement, to participate. Attendees can receive free mulch and compost on a first-come, first-served basis by bringing their own sturdy containers, with a limit of two containers per household. The event also offers free residential document shredding, with unlimited paper accepted until noon or until the shred truck reaches capacity.
