City of Whittier Shares Reminder of Constitutional Rights for All Individuals
WHITTIER, CA – The City of Whittier is reminding all residents and community members that everyone in the United States, regardless of immigration status, is protected by constitutional rights.
The City encourages individuals to be aware of their rights when interacting with law enforcement or immigration officers:
- Individuals have the right to remain silent.
- Individuals have the right to consult with an attorney before answering any questions or signing any documents.
- Individuals should carry valid immigration documents if applicable. Carrying false documents or providing false information is against the law.
- Law enforcement officers may not enter a private home without the resident’s consent unless they present a valid warrant signed by a judge. Administrative warrants issued by the Department of Homeland Security do not authorize forced entry.
