Whittier, CA — The City of Santa Fe Springs has notified the City of Whittier of its decision to conclude the Law Enforcement Services Agreement between the two cities in February 2028, bringing to a close more than three decades of contracted law enforcement services.
“We take pride in the strong relationship we have built with Santa Fe Springs and the high-quality service our officers and professional staff have consistently provided to the community,” said Mayor James Becerra. “We congratulate our neighboring city on this significant milestone and wish them great success as they establish their own full-service police department—just as Whittier did nearly 110 years ago. This City Council is extremely proud of the brave men and women of Whittier Police Department and the vital role they play in keeping our community safe."
The City of Whittier is committed to working closely with Santa Fe Springs to ensure a thoughtful and coordinated transition over the coming months, with a continued focus on maintaining high standards of public safety and service throughout the duration of the agreement.
Looking ahead, the Whittier City Council views this transition as an opportunity to further strengthen public safety services within Whittier. With the conclusion of the Law Enforcement Services Agreement, the City of Whittier will focus on future policing strategies, invest in local priorities, and continue enhancing community focused programs that increase safety for Whittier residents and businesses.
