Ordering Containers

To obtain additional refuse, recycling or green waste containers, call Athens Services at (888) 336-6100.

The basic service level includes providing each single-family resident with a 96-gallon green container for green waste, a 96-gallon blue container for co-mingled recycling, and a 64-gallon black container for refuse. Residents may request an unlimited number of blue containers and up to two green waste containers free of charge. There is a monthly charge for extra black refuse containers and green waste containers beyond two. Use the chart below to see what materials are acceptable in each colored container.

Placement of Containers

  • Place containers in the street with lids closed or in the alley on the side where the large black alley containers are placed.
  • Wheels must be against the curb. The front of container should face the street or alley if you are serviced in an alley.
  • Place containers side-by-side, spaced about 1 foot apart, and a minimum of 3 feet from parked vehicles or objects to allow for automated collection.
  • Place all containers out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on your regular collection day and no sooner than 6:00 p.m. the day before. The City designated collection day is the 24 hour period from 6:00 p.m. the day before to 6:00 p.m. the day of collection. (WMC 8.12.140)

Removal of Containers

Please remove all containers (refuse and recycling) from the curb and alley once they are emptied. All containers (except the large 300-gallon alley containers) must be removed from the public right-of-way and stored on a customer’s private property. They must also be out of public view from the front and sides of property. According to Municipal Code Section 8.12.132.
